History

PASL Team

FC Indiana Men's team participates in a Premier Arena Soccer League. Home games hosted at Lafayette Sports Center, with away games played throughout the mid-west. Erik Castro has accomplished to date as the head coach of FC INDIANA'S MEN'S team has been most impressive. As a member of the first FC INDIANA team to win the State Cup in 2004, Castro has led the LIONS to a 2009 INDOOR STATE CUP and 2010 USSF STATE CUP, and is in pace for a double as FC INDIANA defends their 2009 INDOOR STATE CUP in the upcoming 2010 INDOOR STATE CUP hosted by the Lafayette Sports Club. These accolades are in his first full calendar season at the helm. I could never have imagined anything like this at the beginning of the season, said the 32-year-old Castro. I just wanted to do a good job for the club I once captained, but in my first year to win both 2009 INDOOR STATE CUP and 2010 OUTDOOR STATE CUP and one step away from repeating as INDOOR STATE CUP champions in 2010, is great. We cannot deny that it has been a great season thus far. I have been fortunate to have a great group of guys representing this club and we've been able to do well. But we can still do better." Throughout a year-long run of groundbreaking excellence, Erik Castro's role as a "defensive" tactician tended to be undervalued. He reinstituted the "ball possession and incessant attack" concept that Shek Borkowski, Castro's former manager at FC INDIANA, instilled when Castro was a player and later an assistant coach under Borkowski. Additionally, Castro changed the culture inside the dressing room, and brought back a sense of discipline and accountability to the team. Quality players such as Chris Davies (W. Kentucky University) and Nain Riano (Veracruz, Mexico) anchor the defense with discipline and experience. "Coach Erik is looking to me to add some experience to a young team, I want to be a leader in the back along with Nain and carry this team to the success that this club is accustomed to. Since winning the 2010 outdoor state championship, I've become spoiled by winning trophies, therefore, this season is no different!" said Davies. FC INDIANA will also rely on the inspiration of returning player Alex Sangsuwangul (Purdue University), who will have a big responsibility in keeping the LIONS ready for any confrontation. "My biggest responsibility for the season will be to help the team stay organized especially on defense. Our defense this season will be the most important factor in our success." said Sangsuwangul. Humberto "Tito" Fernandez (Oakland City University/Purdue) in midfield, along with up-and-coming 16 year old Chris Bugay (1FC Kaiserslautern/USNT U17 player pool) will also play a big role in the success of FC INDIANA as they enter this season in hopes of winning any titles. "My goal is to be a positive impact this year and hope to add depth to an already established team. Limiting mistakes and contributing to the offense will be my top priorities this year as well as growing as a footballer." said Fernandez. FC INDIANA also looks to 11th season veteran Chris Castro. Chris adds experience the team needs in front of the goal. His ability to read the opponent's defense and score goals or set up his teammates will be essential. We are going to see a great Castro. He is in good form and the team will help him to deliver. If we play in the way we can play, then Chris with his experience will have a good game. said Erik Castro.
